Tanjil Farm Pork
Situated about an hour and a half east of Melbourne, Tanjil Estate is located just out of a little township at the foothills of Mt. Baw Baw called Willow Grove.
The property has been in the family since 1975, originally milking Fresians and Jersey Cows.
After a 16 year absence working in Indonesia the Hewett family returned to Australia to and in the year 2000 set up a 9 acre Vinyard.
The vinyard is completely family run and is harvested and pruned by hand, giving the resulting wine a boutique and traditional taste.
Midway through 2012, 3 little saddlebacks were bought in to cull down some blackberries on the property and having seen how happy the pigs were eating grass, rooting around and lazing about in wollows, teh family decided that they could offer some pigs a happier life out in the paddocks doing what pigs are meant to do.
Son Guy has now taken the lead in farming traditional heritage breeds including, English large blacks, Wessex Saddlebacks, and Berkshires.
The pigs benefit from eating all the grass, roots, worms, snails and anything they can dig up which gives them a unique and traditional flavour which are so lacking in intensive farmed pigs.
At the moment we are currently farming 60 pigs with the potential to go up to 200 pigs.
The Hewett family are thrilled with the feedback from the Mulgrave community and feel privileged to offer you our Produce.
They look forward to taking on the market on a weekly basis (from Dec) and look forward to meeting all of you!
